Gas boiler is an essential element of the whole system, and thus a lot of research goes into upgrading it. Gas is the most common material people use for heating as well as other things, and therefore it’s essential to find a way to use the gas with as little loss of the same as possible.
Evolution of the gas system happened in less than half a century, and that is thanks to the rapid development of technology. Boilers that were new a decade ago are already outdated, and therefore their security levels aren’t up-to-date. This is why governments issued the creation of departments that will perform an investigation and approve of gas systems. They allowed companies from the private sector to start their business and give Central Gas Safety certificates to people who install gas systems. We are one such company.
Pros and cons of different types of boilers
Some gas boilers are excellent additions to buildings that don’t use cylinders and secondary water tanks in their plumbing systems. An excellent example of this is the combi boiler. This type can be either gas or electric, but in both cases, it provides hot water whenever you want it. Another excellent thing about the combi is that it takes almost no space compared to other types. But it has some downsides, and the most alarming one is that you won’t have good water pressure if you open two or more taps with the intention of getting hot water on all of them.
Then there are conventional boilers that have a tank as well as the cylinder. They are also called regular and open vent boilers. One of the most significant advantages these have is the ability to supply hot water to several taps that work simultaneously. Now, this comes with some disadvantages, one of them being the limited amount of hot water. The size of the tank determines the amount of hot water you have. You will have to wait for the boiler to heat more water once the original runs out. Another downside of the conventional boiler is the need to find some space in the tank.
A system boiler is a middle ground between the combo and open vent types. They don’t require a water tank, but they do come with a cylinder for which you will have to find space. Like convention type it also allows you to use hot water on multiple taps without any loss to the water pressure. But it can run out of hot water, and that is one of its several disadvantages. Another downside is that you don’t get the hot water as soon as you open the tap. You have to wait for a couple of seconds before the hot water reaches it.
So which one is better?
These three boiler types don’t represent everything as there is more diversity in this industry. And it’s hard to advise someone on which one to install. It’s up to you and the type of plumbing system in the residential building or a house in which you live.
